Riviera Maya – The Calm Before the Crazy!
by Emma Barrs
Mexico’s Riviera Maya is not one of the best-known places in the world, and those that do know it, probably just think of the long sandy beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, tequila and glorious sunshine throughout most of the year. The Riviera Maya certainly has those, and they are not to be sniffed at.
However, there’s much more on offer in this wonderful location!
An activity guaranteed to wow, is to venture into the large flooded caves—known as cenotes—that extend for miles under the earth. Don’t be shy, get your kit off, pop on a wetsuit and follow the experienced guide underground. Swim in the rivers, climb through the caves and enjoy the natural beauty of the dramatic stalactites and stalagmites which have taken millions of years to form.
(If, like me, you have trouble remembering which is which… stalactites are the ones that hang down from the ceiling, ladies just think you gotta pull your tights down!)
Also, for those of you who are looking for somewhere unique and memorable to take their group for dinner, where better than inside the caves themselves! (Yes really, we can make that happen!)
Feeling too relaxed?
Relaxation is great, but if you’re in search of a bit of life, then let’s turn that calm into crazy and head to Coco Bongos. Not heard of it? Believe me, once you have been you will never forget it!
If you mix up a nightclub, jaw-dropping entertainment and waiter service drinks all under one roof, then you have Coco Bongos. From the minute you step into the venue, your feet will be tapping, your booty will be shaking and your arms will be moving in time to the music. I mean, seriously, where can you go for a dance and also see a Madonna medley, a compilation of show tunes and a tribute to the film Gladiator? – wow wow wow!!
I highly recommend the Riviera Maya… whether you want that Mexican calm, some full-on crazy or a bit of both, it could be the perfect location for your next event.
