Why Is Synergy So Important?

It is a well-known fact that good teamwork is a major factor in the success of any venture. As event organisers, each and every project undertaken is brought to life by a whole bunch of people that are bound together with one key mission – to make it the best one yet!

First things first – why do we need a team?

Diversity – everyone comes to the table with their own attributes. We all have our own unique background and life experiences, knowledge and information; and the magic happens when these different perspectives are brought together to create something amazing. Think about an orchestra – that combination of different sounds that blend together to create something wonderfully powerful.

Different skill sets – be they creative, strategic, mathematical, analytical or technical, every project requires a blend of valuable contributions to make it happen. In the event world, for example, the creative ideas can only come to fruition if the numbers work and what we want to achieve is, in fact, feasible – so if you want screens hanging from the ceiling in the conference room we need the technical guys to check the load-bearing points.

Increased efficiency – or in plain speak, sharing the load. Everyone has an important part to play and the reality is that big projects cannot be successfully managed by one person (unless they are a super-hero, have tentacles or can split themselves into many pieces.) Consider the most successful sports teams – they all need each other to make it work.

Regardless of the context, the best teams are the ones that “get” each other. The ones that share goals, principles, priorities, beliefs and in our case the all-important sense of humour. After all, that is how friendship works – so why should we short-change ourselves at work?

Consider this next time you are recruiting new staff or choosing new suppliers to work with. The metaphysical Law of Attraction states that “like attracts like,” and we as a business will always begin any working relationship by getting to know the people involved. Why? Because the most successful partnerships come from working with like-minded people who share the same values and outlook. Synergy breeds energy and momentum, and frankly, makes the journey much more enjoyable for everyone involved.
